The Papaya Sisters are a getai group made up of two Singaporean girls who perform during the seventh lunar month. Big Papaya is estranged from her mother, who dislikes her performances, and Little Papaya is an orphan with terminal cancer. Auntie Ling and her son, Guan Yin, assist them. The two quickly rise to the top of Singapore's getai scene, singing traditional Hokkien songs, but their fame earns them the enmity of the Durian Sisters, a rival group of techno-singing Eurasian girls.
