A Small Fortune
Kevin, played by Stephen Oates, is an Irish Moss farmer who is steadfast in his adherence to the customary means by which things have always been done, even at the sacrifice of a more financially rewarding existence for himself and his pregnant wife (Liane Balaban). When he discovers a bag of money that has been washed ashore on the shores of Prince Edward Island, he makes the decision to keep it a secret. However, when the owners of the money come looking for it, his once sleepy fishing community becomes a burgeoning crime scene. The narrative of one man's battle to care for his family and the necessity to let go of old ways in order to learn that money isn't everything is told in the book A Small Fortune. A Blessing from the Sea, a short film directed by Adam Perry that won multiple awards, has been adapted here.
