You live off your earnings, which are proportional to your labor. Jung-cheol has always struggled with this straightforward notion. At the plant where he went to work during the harsh winter, he fantasizes about traveling to the warm Philippines in the spring, provided he survives the winter by producing the soybean paste he promised the boss. But the more he strives to live, the worse his condition becomes. Soon, the fermentation room becomes musty due to the spread of black mold from hundreds of fermented, cooked soybean lumps.
