The Vaudeville Theatre in London's West End will broadcast live to cinemas a new production of Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband, the Rolls-Royce of English comedies. This engaging and still-current piece puts a political transgression into the heart of the English home. Sir Robert Chiltern's easy ascension to the top seemed guaranteed as an ambitious government minister, until Mrs Cheveley arrives in London with incriminating evidence of his earlier financial chicanery. This is the third play in the Classic Spring Theatre Company's Oscar Wilde Season, a year-long celebration of the outstanding Victorian playwright. It will be directed by Jonathan Church.
