The film follows the chance meeting of two young girls on the Venice Boardwalk who, despite living in worlds apart, embark on an unexpected and lifelong friendship. CC is a budding singer attempting to make it in Los Angeles. Hillary is the daughter of a prominent civil rights lawyer who is struggling to find her own path. Their friendship, despite its ups and downs, has lasted for decades.
