BELLE is motivated by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate mixed race girl of a Royal Navy Admiral. Inspired by her great-uncle Lord Mansfield and his wife, Belle's lineage gives her particular rights, however her skin's color prevents her from fully engaging in the traditions of her standing. Left to wonder if she will ever find love, Belle drops for an young vicar's son bent on change who, together with her aid, shapes the role of Lord Mansfield as Lord Chief Justice to stop slavery
