Blizzard of Souls
The First World War stops Arturs, a sixteen-year-old boy, from being with the girl he loves. After losing his mother and his home, he finds some comfort in joining the army, because this is the first year that national battalions are allowed in the Russian Empire. But war is nothing like Arturs thought it would be. There is no glory and no fairness in war. It is cruel and painful. Arturs is now completely alone, since both his father and brother have died in the war. Also, no progress is made toward the promised quick end to the war and timely return home. Arturs finds the strength he needs for the final battle by thinking that he is the only one who wants to go home and that his country is just a playground for other countries. He wins the battle and goes home to start over, just like his country.
