Class of 1999
The period is in the future, and the level of juvenile gang violence has reached such a high level that the areas around some schools have been designated as "free-fire zones," into which neither the police nor the public are allowed to go. The "tactical education units" provided by Dr. Robert Forrest are important in helping Miles Langford, the principal of Kennedy High School, reclaim his school from the gangs. These are astonishingly human-like androids who have been designed to teach and who are provided with devastatingly effective answers to discipline problems to help them succeed. Students at Kennedy High School are going to get a genuine education... in remaining alive... when they report to class the next day, because they are violent and out of control.
