Cousin Bette
Cousin Bette is a poor and lonely seamstress who attempts to integrate herself into the lives of her brother-in-law, Baron Hulot, and her niece, Hortense Hulot, following the death of her prominent and wealthy sister. Rather than doing so, she finds peace and companionship in a lovely young sculptor whom she rescues from famine. However, the aspirant artist quickly falls in love with another woman, Hortense, leaving Bette a bitter spinster. Bette seeks vengeance against the family that rejected her and took her one true love. She progressively destroys the lives of those who have spurned her with the assistance of renowned courtesan Jenny Cadine.
