After successfully defending a man accused of murder, the same type of murder occurs again. The previously defended man immediately hires the attorney again, and despite the fact that the attorney is certain he is the murderer, he agrees to defend him once more... much to the chagrin of his friends. However, he explains that by being his attorney, he will be better able to catch the man in a mistake... and so the rest of the film unfolds, with the killer playing a cat and mouse game with the attorney until, at long last, they both must recognize that they are not all that different.
