Al Roberts, a New York nightclub pianist, hitch hikes to Hollywood to match with his girl friend . The gambler he is riding with, Charlesdies. The police wouldn't think the facts, Al chooses the guy's individuality. He also gives a lift to Vera, a woman who blackmails Al with tragic consequences and knew Charles.
