Quebec Bill Bohomme is a hardy schemer and dreamer who, desperate for funds to keep his endangered herd alive through the impending winter, resorts to whiskey-smuggling, a traditional family business. Quebec Bill goes on the journey with his son, Wild Bill. In addition, there's Henry Coville, a mysterious whiskey smuggler, and Rat Kinneson, Quebec Bill's perpetually depressed ex-con hired man. They cross the border together into the vast Canadian wilderness for four unforgettable days "full of terror, full of wonder."
