First Light
Geoffrey "Geoff" or "Boy" Wellum joined the RAF in May 1940 at the age of 18, making him the youngest pilot of a Spitfire ever. In the beginning, he has to go through a lot of training. He soon bonds with the flying men in his squadron. There is a lot of danger in the air, but drinks, sports, and girls like Sarah provide a lot of comfort on the ground. After a long time, though, the deaths take a toll on his mental health. His 18-month tour of duty is over.
