Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko
Nikuko is a bold, jovial, scattered, and passionate woman in a peaceful northern Japanese coastal town. She is also the single mother to 11-year-old Kikuko, who is her polar opposite in many aspects. Kikuko is a young string bean, pensive, quietly curious, and systematic in her attitude to life in this small coastal town. Nikuko embarrasses Kikuko in the same way that any mother of a preteen would, but Nikuko's outspoken personality makes her stand out in a place where Kikuko wants nothing more than to blend in. A surprising revelation from the past threatens to uproot Kikuko's fragile connection as she navigates the everyday social dramas of middle school, supplemented with bits of magical realism from her ever-present imagination.
