Grandview, Illinois, is a small town that operates similarly to other cities and towns. Tim Pearson, a high school senior about to graduate, wishes to study oceanography in Florida. He meets and falls in love with Michelle "Mike" Cody. She is the owner of the neighborhood Demolition Derby. Ernie "Slam" Webster is a derby driver whose wife is cheating on him and afterwards wishes to be with Mike. Tim develops feelings for Mike, resulting in a massive love triangle.
