A peculiar connection is formed between Chris, an ambitious novelist from England, and Sally Bowles, a colorful cabaret artist. This meeting takes place just prior to the rise to power of the Nazi party in Berlin. Chris continues to indulge Sally's lavish demands despite the fact that their Jewish friend, Fritz, is getting into difficulty.
