The film's narrative is based on the assassination and following investigation of John F. Kennedy. The film begins with the assassination of President Marc Jarry, who is about to begin a second six-year term. Henri Volney, state attorney and member of the commission investigating the assassination (modeled after the Warren Commission), refuses to accept the commission's ultimate findings. The film depicts the original debate around this matter, as well as Volney and his team's reopening of the inquiry.
