Danny Fisher, a young delinquent, fails his high school diploma. He quits his job as a nightclub busboy after being given the opportunity to perform one night. Success is on the horizon, and Maxie Fields, the local crime boss, wants to hire him to perform at his nightclub The Blue Shade. Danny refuses, but Fields is adamant.
