King Rat
When Singapore surrendered to the Japanese in 1942, the Allied POWs, mostly British but including a few Americans, were incarcerated in Changi prison. There were not any walls or fences for the very simple reason that there wasn't any place for the inmates to escape to. Included among the prisoners could be the American Cpl. King, a wheeler dealer who's had to set a pretty great life for himself at the camp. While the majority have uniforms that are in tatters and also of the prisoners are close starvation, King eats and and has sharp clean clothes to wear. King soon forms a friendship with Lt. Peter Marlowe, an upper class British officer who's interested with King's élan lifestyle.
