In a mirror-lined room, Christian witnesses his father murdering his mistress. Years later, he returns to the family home with Helene, his fiancée, and another married couple, Paul (his lawyer) and Brigitte, who are close friends. Christian is troubled by the possibility that his father, who allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a cliff, is still alive. Strange incidents, such as discovering his father's still smoking pipe, cause him to fear that Paul is attempting to steal his inheritance...
