The 3 sons of devout Danish farmer Morten have resisted religious beliefs. Youngest boy Anders shares his dad's religion, however his faith has been lost by son Mikkel , while midst child Johannes has become delusional and proclaims he is Jesus Christ himself. If Mikkel's wife, Inger goes in to a challenging child birth, everyone's beliefs have been put to the test.
