When Emma Gardner, a whip smart NYC reporter sees of her dad's untimely death, she returns to her home town to discover the idyllic farming area of her childhood has been ravaged by drought and has come to be a place tormented by gangs and also the ill consequences of extreme poverty. She immediately understands that the accidental death of her dad was not casual at all.
