From house to house, an intelligent electrical pulse is transmitted. It terrorizes the occupants by seizing control of the appliances and either murdering them or causing them to cause havoc in an attempt to destroy the house. Then it makes its way along the electrical wires to the next house, where the dread begins again. After wreaking havoc on one household in a peaceful neighborhood, the pulse moves to the home of a boy's divorced father, whom he is visiting. It eventually takes over everything, seriously injures the stepmother, and traps father and son, forcing them to fight their way out.
