While Samantha Hodges is a serious journalist, writing for both the school paper and for the yearbook, she is also a serious friend to her three other high school classmates: Nate, Gillian, and Rudy, all of whom are competing with her for a full-ride local scholarship to college. Because Samantha is very close to her mother, Emily, who works as a guidance counselor at her school, her reporting takes an investigative turn when two of her classmates, both of whom were competing for a college scholarship, are assassinated.
