During the 17th century, Korea was a very different country. When the powerful Khan of the Jurchen tribe of Manchuria fights the Ming dynasty to get China, he becomes the first ruler of the Qing dynasty. He asks King In-jo of Joseon, who is loyal to the Ming dynasty, to bow down to him. December14,1636: The Qing army invades Joseon, so King In-jo and his court flee to Namhan, a fortress in the mountains. They prepare to defend the kingdom, and they hide there.
