The Honorary Consul
The story follows Dr. Eduardo Plarr, a half-English, half-Latino man who left his home in search of a better life in a small, politically insecure Latin American country. Along the route, he meets a diverse group of characters, including British Consul Charley Fortnum, a diplomat in Latin America who is attempting to prevent Revolution. He's also an alcoholic with a history of guilt. Clara is another person the doctor meets, and he falls in love with her right away, but there's a catch: Clara is Charley's wife.
