William Freise-Greene, who is now old, ailing, destitute, and virtually forgotten, was once very different. As the youthful and gorgeous William Green, he changed his name to include his first wife's so that his photography portrait work would sound more impressive. But he was also an innovator, and his fixation with finding a technique to show moving images ultimately altered the lives of everyone he loved.
