Clovis Poplin and married smalltime crooks Lou-Jean lose their baby into Texas' state and resolve to do anything is needed to get him back. Lou-Jean gets Clovis out of jail, besides carrying a highway patrolman hostage, and their son is stolen by the two from his foster home.
