In 1880s China, Lalu's impoverished father sells her into marriage. Rather than marrying, Lalu ends up as the property of a saloon owner who renames her China Polly and plans to sell her as entertainment for the locals. Lalu eventually finds her own way in this strange country full of white demons after refusing to become a whore.
