Toni
Provence is a magnet for immigrants seeking work in the quarries or agriculture in the 1920s. Many mingle with the locals and eventually settle down, such as Toni, an Italian who has moved in with Marie, a Frenchwoman. Toni becomes entangled in a web of increasingly passionate relationships, despite her well-ordered existence being immune to boredom, friendship, love, or enmity. There's Fernand, his best friend, but there's also Albert, his overbearing foreman; Sebastian, a steady Spanish peasant, but there's also Gabi, his young rogue relative; Marie, but there's also Josefa.
