Fullmetal Alchemist
Alchemy is the science of converting one thing into another, and Edward and Alphonse Elric are two brothers who have been gifted with it. Alchemy, on the other hand, is based on the Equivalent Exchange hypothesis, which states that in order to create something of equivalent worth, something of equal value must be sacrificed. When their mother passes away, Edward vows to try the unimaginable and conduct Human Alchemy to bring her back to life. He and Alphonse make their attempt, thinking they have nothing to lose, but things go tragically wrong. Alphonse loses his body and Edward loses a limb as a result of the process. Ed saves Al by affixing his spirit to a set of armor, but it comes at the cost of his arm and leg.
