Takumi Fujiwara is the son of a tofu shop's owner. At nighttime, Fujiwara gets into his souped up AE86 Sprinter Trueno (AE86 Corolla GT-APEX) and races on the seldom-used Japanese mountain roads. One night, a club, the Akagi Red Suns team, challenges the Akina Speed Stars to a race in the mountain through which Fujiwara lives. Keisuke, one of those leaders of the Red Suns, races his most Mazda RX-7 - to be beaten by the Fujiwara that is cryptic.
