A Resistance
During the Japanese colonial era, YU Gwan-sun is imprisoned for initiating the March 1 Movement, a nonviolent protest for Korea's independence. Unfazed, YU rallies her other captives against Japan. The chief of Japanese security detects the resistance, entices one inmate to discover that YU Gwan-sun is behind it, and then tortures her. Later, Gwan-sun pretends to follow the Japanese while covertly plotting a new independence demonstration. This movement spills beyond the prison walls and into the streets, and YU is again subjected to cruel punishment. Her spirit is more emancipated and free than ever despite the fact that she passes away two days prior to her scheduled release.
