Black Is … Black Ain’t
Marlon Riggs, an African-American documentary filmmaker, was working on this last movie when he died in 1994 from complications related to AIDS. In several scenes, he talks to the camera from his hospital bed. The film talks directly about sexism and homophobia in the black community by showing snippets of misogynistic and anti-gay slurs from popular hip-hop songs and interviews with African-American intellectuals and political theorists like Cornel West, bell hooks, and Angela Davis.
