Mitchum plays Jim Garry, a wandering cowboy. Garry rides into an Indian reservation after getting a job offer letter from the smooth-talking Tate Riling (Preston). He finds himself in the middle of a fight between cattle ranchers and homesteaders. What Garry doesn't know is that the man he works for now, Riling, is a crook.
