Clay is a young man in a small town who witnesses his friend, Earl, commit suicide as a result of Clay's ongoing affair with the man's wife, Amanda. Clay is now resisting the widow's pressure to continue their sexual affairs because he feels guilty. Clay inadvertently befriends a serial killer named Lester Long, who murders the widow in an attempt to "help" his "fishing buddy."
