Lewis, a young amateur theater director, is offered a job in a Sydney institution as part of a government program for the rehabilitation of mentally ill patients. His project is derailed by one of the patients' desire to stage Mozart's opera Cosi Fan Tutte, despite the fact that none of the patients can sing and none speak Italian. A comedy of errors ensues, but in unexpected ways, it unites the patients and their director.
