Eroica
Two short skits based on WWII events. In the first novel, "Scherzo alla polacca," a cunning son tries to save his skin by becoming a hero and discovering a reason to fight. To escape the Warsaw uprising, he first avoids subterranean training. When he is sober, his drinking, contempt for safety, and cowardice come across as something sensible in a society gone wild. His wish to live is more acceptable than his desire to die heroically. "Ostinato lugubre," the second novel, depicts a hopeless attempt to flee a prison camp by a guy who can no longer endure the confinement and idiocy of the professional soldiers seeking to maintain military preneses in prison. Nonetheless, while the "escapee" remains hidden from Germans and comrades alike, his escape raises the morale of his fellow inmates." Database of Polish Films
