Paula Nelson goes to Atlantic City to see her boyfriend Richard Politzer, but when she gets there, she finds him dead and decides to look into what happened to him. She meets Typhus in her hotel room, and she knocks him out. Later, his body is found in the apartment of a writer named David Goodis. Paula is caught and questioned. After that, she meets a lot of gangsters.
