On New Year's Eve, the Broadway actress Sheila Page kills her abusive husband Barney by shooting him. She runs away from her flat and goes to meet with her producer, John Friday. The day of the New Year has already passed when she gets there, a whole year earlier. She has been presented with the opportunity to relive her life and make up for the mistakes she has made in the past, but she is disappointed to learn that the destination will remain the same even though the journey will be different.
