Ben Marcus, a reality-TV editor who is experiencing a mid-life crisis and feels estranged from his family, believes that the only way he can be happy is to pursue his dream of becoming a professional comedian. Ben uploads his stand-up routines to YouTube, and the videos are a flop. Then, much to his teenage daughter's chagrin, his tweener son posts Ben miserably failing on a home improvement project, and it goes viral, launching Ben's social-media career as Selfie Dad. Despite quickly becoming an award-winning phenom, Ben is unsatisfied with his achievements. Ben discovers the secret to a happy family through his friendship with a young coworker, Mickey... while holding his Bible in one hand and his phone in the other.
