Mother Carey, a Boston widow, and her three children move to Maine. Postmaster Osh Popham helps them move into and repair up an ancient house. Owner Mr. Hamilton is gone in Europe and Osh assures them he won't mind their living there as long as they don't disturb him. The kids and their new cousin have fun adventures until an unexpected guest arrives.
