Jack Slavin is an environmentalist who has a heart condition and lives with his daughter, Rose, on an island that is very far away. Jack fights against developers who want to build in the area, but he also wants to meet more people. This is why he fights against them. Whenever he invites Kathleen and her two sons, Rodney and Thaddius, to move in with him, Rose isn't happy with it. All the people in the house have a hard time because of how complicated their families are.
