Within this sequel to'The Decline of the American Empire','' Remy, 50-something Montreal faculty professor, learns he is dying of liver disease. He decides to make amends meet to family and his friends until he dies. He tries to left peace with his exwife Louise, who inquires his eldest son Sebastian, a businessman living in Londonto come home. Sebastian gets the impossible happen, together with his contacts and interrupting the entire Canadian network at every manner possible to aid his dad struggle his terminal illness to the bitter end, while he tries to reunite his former friends, Pierre, Alain, Dominique, Diane, and Claude to see their old friend before he moves on.
