The Edelweiss Pirates
Cologne near the end of World War II. The city is in ruins, everyone is terrified, and many people have died. It is a period of extreme inhumanity. The young Edelweiss Pirates of Cologne refuse to yield to the Nazi regime's pressure. They engage in combat with the Hitler Youth and scribble anti-war propaganda on walls. Karl is an Edelweiss Pirate, and Peter, his younger brother, is a member of the Hitler Youth movement. Since their mother's death in a bombing raid, the two young men have been alone; their father is serving at the front, and their older brother, Otto, has been killed in action. Cilly, Otto's fiancée, is doing everything she can to keep her children safe during the war. Carl is attempting to assist her.
