The realm of magic is being threatened by the realm of logic, so Carolinus, the environment-friendly wizard decides to protect it for all time. Ommadon, the wicked red wizard, stands in his way. Carolinus after that requires a pursuit that is to be led by a man called Peter Dickinson, that is the very first man of both the worlds of scientific research as well as magic. It is Peter's task to defeat Ommadon.
