Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan's actual story is a riveting battle to overcome insurmountable difficulties and the struggle to communicate. Helen Keller suffers from scarlet fever when she is a child. Her condition renders her blind, deaf, and silent. Helen is cut off from the rest of the world and unable to communicate with anyone. Helen's wild rages and tantrums terrify her despairing family when she is irritated and desperate. Annie Sullivan, a skilled teacher, is invited by Helen Keller's family to help the girl understand the world from which she is segregated, thus permanently liberating Helen Keller from her internal prison. Helen Keller is played by Patty Duke in this television adaptation of the 1962 classic.
