The Outsider
Michael Flaherty (Craig Wasson), an American Vietnam soldier of Irish ancestry, comes to Belfast to join his grandfather Seamus's cause (Sterling Hayden). Soon he discovers that he is not as well-received in his native nation as he had anticipated. Worse yet, he is the intended target of an IRA assassination plot aimed to make the British soldiers seem bad in order to solicit financial assistance from wealthy Americans.
