A brash and precocious ten-year-old comes to Paris to get a whirlwind weekend with her rakish uncle. The viewer and he have more than they bargained for, however, within this comedy from Louis Malle, which rides rough shod across the City of Light. Based on a popular novel by Raymond Queneau which was contemplated unadaptable, Malle's audacious Zazie dans le Métro, made using flair on the cusp of the French New Wave, is actually a bit of streamofconsciousness slapstick, wall-to-wall with visual gags, editing hints, and impacts.
