Céline
Céline, now 22 years old, receives the most of her late father's inheritance after her father passes away. However, she gives it all to her stepmother, which prompts her avaricious fiance to break off their engagement. Céline winds herself in the hospital after a series of abortive attempts to end her life by suicide. While there, she meets Genevieve, a nurse who has also battled depression in her life. Céline makes a slow but steady progress toward recovery while she is in her personal care, and the two women develop a close relationship.
